My Learning Reflection: Exploring H5P, Genially, TED Ed, SimpleShow, Xerte, and Book Creator

Recently, in the course ICT Interactive Online Resources for Blended Learning, we learned about several amazing online tools, including H5P, Genially, TED Ed, SimpleShow, Xerte, and Book Creator. These tools really opened my eyes to how fun learning can be! Today, I want to share my learning experience and reflections. I feel that these tools are not only useful for teachers but also for us students to enhance our learning efficiency.

H5P: Making Learning Interactive

H5Pis a super practical tool that allows you to quickly create various interactive content, such as quizzes embedded in videos, timelines, flashcards, and more. It’s easy to use but delivers impressive results!

My Experience: I created a small quiz using H5P and found that it not only allows students to test themselves while learning but also provides real-time feedback. This made me realize that learning doesn’t have to be one-way—where the teacher talks and the students listen—but can be interactive at any time.

Reflection: H5P is especially suitable for pre-class preparation or in-class quizzes. It can increase student engagement and help teachers understand how well students are grasping the material.

Genially: Making Learning Materials "High-End"

Genially is a highly design-focused tool, perfect for creating presentations, infographics, interactive images, and more. It offers many templates, and the results look very professional.

My Experience:I used Genially to create a course mind map, adding some animations and links, and the result was fantastic! It made the learning materials instantly more engaging and fun.

Reflection: Genially is particularly useful for creating visual learning materials, such as course summaries or project presentations. It can simplify complex content and make it more appealing to students.

TED Ed: Using Videos to Spark Thinking

TED Ed is an educational platform by TED that offers high-quality animated videos with interactive questions embedded in them.

My Experience: I watched a TED Ed video about climate change, and the animation and question design were excellent. After watching, I had a deeper understanding of the topic.

Reflection: TED Ed is great for pre-class preparation or in-class discussions. The videos are engaging, and the interactive questions encourage students to think more actively.

SimpleShow: Explaining Complex Concepts with Animations

SimpleShow is a tool specifically designed for creating explanatory animations, making it perfect for simplifying complex concepts.

My Experience: I used SimpleShow to create an animation about "photosynthesis" and found that it really made abstract concepts more intuitive.

Reflection: SimpleShow is ideal for explaining topics that students find difficult to understand. Through animations, students can grasp complex content more easily.

Xerte: Creating Personalized Learning Modules

Xerte is an open-source tool for creating multimedia learning resources. It allows you to combine text, images, videos, and audio into interactive learning modules.

My Experience: I used Xerte to create a learning module about the "Renaissance" and found it particularly suitable for thematic learning.

Reflection: Xerte’s modular design makes learning content more organized, allowing students to learn at their own pace. It’s great for post-class reviews or thematic research.

Book Creator: Visualizing Learning Outcomes

Book Creator is a digital book creation tool that can be used to make e-books, study notes, and project reports.

My Experience: I used Book Creator to make an e-book for a group project and found it particularly useful for documenting and presenting learning outcomes.

Reflection: Book Creator not only makes the learning process more structured but also helps students consolidate knowledge through creating e-books. It’s especially suitable for project-based learning.

 Summary and Reflection

Through this course, I learned a lot of practical online tools and gained a deeper understanding of the importance of interactivity and visualization in learning. These tools not only make learning more fun but also help students better understand and retain knowledge. I believe that future education will increasingly rely on these technologies, and as students, we can also use these tools to enhance our learning efficiency.

  1. Yinan, your H5P exploration is a goldmine for interactive learning enthusiasts! This reflection perfectly captures the "aha" moments and growing pains of adopting new edtech tools. What I love most is how you've documented not just the features, but your actual learning journey - complete with frustrations and breakthroughs.
